About Patenevo
WHO WE ARE
Patenevo is an independent Intellectual Property knowledge platform built for India structured, accurate and grounded in how IP law actually works in practice.
We cover patents, trademarks and copyright under Indian law, with content that goes beyond surface level definitions. Every page on this platform is written to reflect how the Indian Patent Office examines applications, how the Trade Marks Registry processes filings and how courts interpret and apply IP statutes because that is what readers actually need, whether they are preparing for practice, protecting a business or simply trying to understand their rights.
THE PERSON BEHIND PATENEVO
Patenevo was founded by Ashish Kumar.
Ashish holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology from the University of Rajasthan, a Master’s degree in Biotechnology from the Central University of Haryana and Law from Raffles University. What makes this academic journey distinctive is that Intellectual Property Rights was a core subject at every stage at the undergraduate level, at the postgraduate level and again as IP Law within his legal degree. His understanding of IP is not incidental to his education. It was a continuous, formally structured part of it across all three degrees.
This combination of a life sciences foundation and formal legal training is what shapes how Patenevo approaches IP. Patent law particularly in the areas of biotechnology, pharmaceuticals and emerging technology sits precisely at the intersection of science and law. Understanding a patent specification, evaluating patentability criteria or reading an examiner’s objection requires both scientific literacy and legal reasoning. Ashish brings both.
Research background: Before pursuing law, Ashish worked at the Regional Centre for Biotechnology (RCB), New Delhi a national institution established under the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India and affiliated with UNESCO and Drug Discovery Laboratory, Delhi. His research there spanned microbiology and molecular biology, giving him direct experience of the kind of scientific work that patent law is designed to protect. He was subsequently selected for a PhD programme a recognition of the depth of his scientific work but made a deliberate choice to pursue law instead, with a specific focus on Intellectual Property.
That decision is what Patenevo reflects a conscious commitment to the IP field, built on a scientific foundation that most IP lawyers do not have and a legal foundation that most scientists do not have.
Beyond academic training, Ashish has worked as an intern at an IP law firm, gaining direct exposure to patent drafting, trademark filings and Registry hearings. That practical experience seeing how IP matters are actually handled before the Indian Patent Office and the Trade Marks Registry is what distinguishes Patenevo’s content from purely academic writing. The platform explains not just what the law says, but how it is applied.
WHY PATENEVO EXISTS
Patenevo was built to solve a problem that Ashish encountered firsthand :- reliable, structured and practice-oriented IP knowledge in India is hard to find in one place.
Most resources available to law students, startup founders, researchers and creators fall into one of two categories either they are too theoretical, presenting statute text without context or they are too simplified, stripping out the legal precision that makes the information actually useful. Neither serves the reader well.
Patenevo was created to occupy the space between the two: content that is legally accurate and examiner-aligned, but written in a way that a law student, a startup founder or a researcher without a legal background can genuinely follow and use.
The platform exists for three groups of readers in particular:
- Law students and IP professionals who need structured, statute-grounded explanations aligned with how examiners and courts interpret the law
- Startups, entrepreneurs and businesses who need to understand IP rights without wading through bare legislation or paying for a consultation every time they have a basic question
- Researchers, scientists and creators who produce work that IP law protects but who often have no practical understanding of what those protections are or how to use them
OUR APPROACH
Every piece of content on Patenevo follows the same standard :-
Statutory accuracy first. Every legal position stated on this platform is grounded in the relevant Indian statute the Patents Act, 1970, the Trade Marks Act, 1999, the Copyright Act, 1957 and the rules and guidelines issued under each. Section numbers are verified. No provision is paraphrased in a way that changes its legal meaning.
Examiner and Registry alignment. Where relevant, content reflects how the Indian Patent Office, the Trade Marks Registry and the Copyright Office actually function the examination process, the objections commonly raised, the procedural steps involved. This practical layer is what makes the content useful beyond a textbook.
Judicial precedent, not invented cases. Case references on Patenevo are verified Indian judgements from the Supreme Court of India, High Courts and other competent authorities. We do not cite cases we cannot verify and we do not summarize judgements in ways that distort their holdings.
Balanced – formal but readable. Patenevo is not a law journal. It is written to be read by people who may not have a legal background, without sacrificing the precision that a legal platform requires. We do not oversimplify. We do not invent examples. We do not state legal positions with confidence where the law is genuinely unsettled.
This platform does not provide legal advice. The content on Patenevo is educational and informational. It explains the law as it stands it does not constitute legal advice for any specific situation. Readers who need advice on a specific IP matter should consult a qualified legal professional.
OUR TEAM
Patenevo is supported by a small team of researchers, law students and legal professionals who assist with research, content development and review. The team brings a mix of academic and practical backgrounds, reflecting the platform’s commitment to content that is both legally sound and practically relevant.
All content published on Patenevo is reviewed for statutory accuracy before publication. We take the credibility of this platform seriously errors in legal information have real consequences and we hold ourselves to a higher standard than a general content website.
WHAT WE COVER
Patenevo’s content is organised into three primary areas of Indian IP law:
Patents covering the Patents Act, 1970, patentability criteria, examination practice, exclusions under Section 3, compulsory licensing, enforcement and landmark Indian patent judgements.
Trademarks covering the Trade Marks Act, 1999, registrability, objections, opposition proceedings, infringement, passing off, well-known marks and enforcement mechanisms including civil, criminal and border remedies.
Copyright covering the Copyright Act, 1957, categories of protected works, authorship and ownership, moral rights, fair dealing, digital rights and enforcement.
Within each area, content is structured into three layers :-
- Foundation pages explaining core concepts clearly and completely, with statutory grounding, practical examples and verified case references
- Articles deeper analysis of specific topics, procedural aspects and emerging issues in Indian IP law
- Case law summaries structured summaries of landmark Indian IP judgements, written to explain both the facts and the legal principles established
OUR VISION
India’s IP ecosystem is growing. The number of patent filings, trademark applications and copyright registrations has increased significantly in recent years. But awareness of IP rights and the ability to understand and use them has not kept pace with that growth.
Patenevo’s vision is straightforward :- to be the most reliable, structured and accessible IP knowledge resource in India. Not the largest. Not the most comprehensive in volume. The most trustworthy a platform that readers return to because they know the content is accurate, up to date and written with genuine care for their understanding.
If Patenevo helps a startup founder understand why a trademark search matters before launching a brand, helps a law student grasp the idea-expression dichotomy in copyright or helps a researcher understand whether their invention meets patentability criteria that is the platform doing exactly what it was built to do.
Patenevo is an independent platform. It is not affiliated with the Indian Patent Office, the Trade Marks Registry, the Copyright Office or any government authority. Content on this platform is for educational and informational purposes only and does not constitute legal advice.
